Veganuary: Not Just For Humans

It's January and the time for New Year’s resolutions is here again. We are all familiar with it; every January, humans up and down the land commit to healthier habits for the year ahead or, at least, for January.

The hot trend this year is Veganuary; a campaign led by the charity of the same name which aims to inspire people to try becoming vegan for January and, if they can, beyond. The key principle behind Veganuary is the idea that being vegan is one of the most effective lifestyle changes people can make to reduce the suffering of animals, help the planet and improve their own health. So, what's not to like?

There is a lot of debate about whether our animal companions should join their humans in Veganuary and change to a vegan diet, which we have written about here. What we know here at Noggins & Binkles is that our customers love to spoil their four legged friends just as much as we do. We believe that whatever choices we make in relation to our pets' diets, Veganuary is a great opportunity to make some changes to the choices that we make in buying beautiful vegan accessories, such as dog and cat collars, leads, leashes, cat harnesses, cat beds, dog beds and cat toys for our furry friends. Remember to also check out our luxury personalised cat and dog ID tags.

Humans have used animal products in clothing and accessories for many centuries and there is evidence of leather use in clothing going back as far as medieval times. But times are changing and, as people become more sensitive to the use of animal products in their own diets and clothing, there is increasing demand for vegan alternatives to animal products in the pet accessories market.

Noggins & Binkles is proud to only use vegan materials in the manufacture of all of our products. This includes using the increasingly popular and trendy cork fabric as an alternative to leather. In addition to being vegan and having a luxurious aesthetic, cork is a completely natural and sustainable product, which is soft, resilient, water-resistant and has natural anti-bacterial properties. All things that make it an ideal material from which to make beautiful cat and dog collars, leads, leashes and harnesses for our furry friends. We've recently launched some exciting new products in our cat and dog ranges made from Piñatex®, another vegan alternative to leather, with more to come soon. Piñatex® is an innovative, unwoven fabric made of pineapple leaf fibre. In addition to being vegan,  Piñatex® is made from leaves which are the by-product of the fruit industry; traditionally pineapple leaves would be discarded or burned so, like cork leather, Piñatex® is sustainable and good for the environment.

Manufacturing a vegan product goes far beyond just sourcing primary materials which are vegan. Noggins & Binkles ensures, for example, that any glues and inks used in the manufacture of our products are also vegan. This gives our customers complete peace of mind that no animals were harmed in the making of our products.

In 2018, Noggins & Binkles was certified as vegan by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA for short, which is the largest animal rights organization in the world. When buying vegan products, you should look out for a PETA-Approved Vegan certification. In addition to our PETA-Approved Vegan certification, we were delighted to be awarded a PETA Companion Animal Award in 2018 for our luxury solid brass cat and dog identification tags.

So, what better way to start the New Year than by choosing vegan pet accessories for your furry friends this January and beyond.
